staircase renovation...creating open living space

Remember this scene…my living room a construction zone as I tackled our staircase renovation ? Well, here’s the update!

fridge makeover - a touch of folk art design for my farmhouse kitchen

Since the premature death of my beloved industrial fridge (well, actually its extended temporary convalesce, since really we just need to repair its compressor) I have embarked on the search for a satisfying alternative. This is a big challenging for me 🙄 All of the tantalizing fridge options that I love love love are outside of our limited budget (I want to retire before I’m 90!) and  I have an intensive aversion to inserting a big huge rectangular box that I don’t love into my kitchen that I do love… I mean, really, fridges are big huge expensive pieces of ‘furniture’ that grab the focus in the kitchen, so inserting some huge expensive focal point into my very personalize kitchen is not a simple task for me! Plus, none of the options provided enough storage space – our milk and cheese stock alone overwhelms the fridge, never mind the toppling bundles of veggies…so stressful!

downstairs redesign

I’m completely flummoxed by our downstairs layout and features. I feel like I’m going to go crazy trying to figure out the best layout to best use the current elements AND create a beautiful space.

staircase reno

Finally, after seven years of contemplation, I’m bashing down the walls surrounding our staircase.  Of course, I just finished the wall treatment surrounding the doorway (above) and now am tearing it down! …although, really, there is a good reason beyond satisfying my obsession for wall removal 😯 as this will provide a much better connection between our upper and lower living areas. Beautiful construction mess…this is what my family patiently navigates in one room or another…seems normal, no?

master bedroom reno

My love of light airy spaces has compelled me to increase the window space in our master bedroom sitting room…predictably, the window I’m targeting is the one I gaze out of as I’m having my morning coffee in bed (and dream of design projects)…

engagement party entrance decor

Madeline’s recent engagement party was such a fun way to start the celebrations for her quickly approaching wedding…and, of course, a great excuse for all sorts of decorating projects (not that I need an excuse!). My amazing sister-in-law, Sandra, joined me in the preparations, sharing her beautiful decorations and providing loads of inspiring ideas…like this adorable entrance arch made of Russian Sage and branches collected from our garden.

before and after bathroom reno

While my current master bath reno seems to be on a little vacation time while Doug and I are preoccupied with anticipation and preparations for Madeline wedding, I want to share with you one of our recent bathroom reno projects.
